Third of DPD UK's final mile fleet now electric

Parcel company DPD UK has confirmed that a third of its final mile van fleet is now electric, and 95% of its transport fleet is running on HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil).

This means the company is on target to deliver a 46% reduction in emissions by the end of 2024, from the 2020 baseline. It is also on track to meet its net zero target of 2040.

Micro-logistics hub trial commences in Westminster

Westminster City Council (WCC) and Cross River Partnership (CRP) are launching a six-month micro logistics hub trial in Pimlico today to support zero-emission last-mile deliveries in the City of Westminster.

This is a CRP and WCC-funded trial, supported by Infinium Logistics, and carried out by Delivery Mates zero-emission couriers. The project is part of the Defra-funded Clean Air Logistics for London (CALL) programme, which aims to move more freight into London via river rather than road, supported by zero emission delivery methods and micro logistics hubs in Central London.

£1.2 million awarded for nine green freight projects

Nine new innovative freight projects have been awarded a share of £1.2 million in government funding, as part of the Freight Innovation Fund (FIF).

The winning projects, which are led by SMEs, aim to create cleaner, more innovative ways of delivering freight around the country.

The winners include Skyports Deliveries, which will use drones to improve island-to-island connectivity in the Orkney Islands, and Electric Assisted Vehicles, which is developing a 4-wheel, electrically assisted lightweight delivery vehicle to help reduce road emissions.

FedEx Express and Future Mobility Campus Ireland (FMCI) have completed its first scheduled drone last-mile delivery flight in Ireland. The delivery marks the launch of a trial service delivering goods from FMCI, based at Shannon Airport, County Clare, to Foynes Port, County Limerick, Ireland’s second-largest port operator and largest bulk port company.

The drone deliveries were conducted by Skyports on behalf of the FMCI Air consortium which also includes Avtrain, Shannon Group and FMCI.
