Ayvens has announced it will be piloting the ZeroCarbon BatteryManager solution from Hitachi ZeroCarbon within its company fleet and a number of clients.

The project will track the performance and health of large batches of electric vehicle batteries, within cars, light commercial vehicles, and heavy goods vehicles, over three months. It will equip Ayvens with real-time data and insight to optimise EV battery management, and prevent unnecessary degradation and protect vehicle performance, which is a key driver of EV profitability and residual value.

EAL, in collaboration with the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre in Coventry, has launched a new qualification to get more people get into battery manufacturing roles.

The level 2 qualification is designed for individuals aged 16 and above, serving as an introductory point for those new to the industry. Higher-level qualifications are planned to be introduced later this year.

By 2040 nearly 500,000 people will be required by the battery sector in the UK.

Generational, provider of electric vehicle battery health certification, has released new data showing the stark differences in battery health between EVs of the same mileage, highlighting the advancements in EV battery technology and the minimal relevance of mileage in the EV age.

Generational’s proprietary battery testing technology revealed that in the vehicle set tested, the battery health of EVs produced in 2023 is more than 10% higher on average than those manufactured in 2016 and 2017, despite covering an equal distance over their lifetime.

A major National Grid engineering project is underway to meet the power needs of the UK’s biggest electric vehicle battery-making facility in Somerset.

The 40GWh factory will be built at the 620-acre Gravity Smart Campus near Bridgwater and is expected to create 4,000 highly skilled green tech jobs.

The production facility – run by Tata Group’s global battery business Agratas – is due to open in 2026 and aims to supply almost half of the batteries needed by the UK’s automotive industry by the early 2030s.
